La procuradora general de Nueva York, Letitia James, demandó a la Organización Trump, junto con el hijo del presidente, Eric Trump, para obligar a la compañía a cumplir mientras investiga si la compañía supuestamente infló sus activos para garantizar préstamos y otros acuerdos. Y llega cuando comienza la Convención Nacional Republicana, cuando el presidente Trump debe defender su reelección en noviembre. Según la presentación de 68 páginas, James está investigando si la Organización Trump engañó a los inversores al inflar el valor de sus activos.
James también está buscando un juez para obligar a la Organización Trump a cumplir con las citaciones para su información financiera y obligar a Eric Trump, el vicepresidente ejecutivo de la compañía, a sentarse para una entrevista. La investigación también cubre una propiedad en el norte del estado de Nueva York llamada Seven Springs, que el fiscal general llama "significativa", junto con 40 Wall Street en Manhattan, Trump Tower Chicago y el club de golf de Trump en Los Ángeles.
James no ha concluido la investigación, “y no ha llegado a una determinación sobre si los hechos identificados hasta la fecha establecen violaciones a la ley”, según la denuncia. "Estamos buscando miles de documentos y testimonios de múltiples testigos sobre varias propiedades y transacciones de la Organización Trump, incluso de Eric Trump, quien estuvo íntimamente involucrado en una o más transacciones bajo revisión", escribió James en Twitter.
