China anunció este lunes que hará pruebas de coronavirus a los 9 millones de habitantes de una ciudad tras detectar el primer rebrote de transmisión local en el país en dos meses, mientras que Europa sigue registrando récord de casos e internaciones y prepara más restricciones ante su segunda ola de contagios. El anuncio rompe con casi dos meses sin casos de coronavirus de transmisión local reportados por las autoridades de salud nacionales, aunque China, que solo controla a viajeros y a todos aquellos que visitan edificios públicos o sitios turísticos en busca de infectados, no informa sobre contagios. El gigante asiático, donde surgió el coronavirus en diciembre pasado, ya reportó 4.634 muertes sobre un total de 85.578 casos de la enfermedad, más nueve contagios sospechosos que aún no se terminaron de confirmar. Desde la aparición de la Covid-19, hace 10 meses, las cifras de contagios en el mundo superan los 37,6 millones, mientras que los decesos rozan 1,08 millones.
A nivel global en las últimas 24 horas se reportó un descenso: 307.000 enfermos, frente a los 380.000 de ayer, y 5.500 defunciones, frente a las más de 8.500 del día anterior, informó la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). Sin embargo, el director general de la OMS, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expresó hoy su preocupación por el aumento de casos en Europa y América, y advirtió que a algunos países no les quedará más remedio que recurrir de nuevo a confinamientos locales.
