La canciller alemana Angela Merkel llamó este sábado a los ciudadanos de su país a permanecer en casa y evitar viajar en la medida de lo posible ante el nuevo repunte del coronavirus. "Ahora tenemos que hacer todo lo posible para asegurarnos de que el virus no se propague de manera incontrolable. Cada día cuenta", dijo en su acostumbrado videomensaje de los fines de semana.
Alemania registró este sábado 7.830 nuevos contagios de coronavirus, lo que representa un nuevo máximo por tercer día consecutivo, según las cifras del Instituto Robert Koch (RKI), la autoridad nacional en enfermedades infecciosas. "Les pido que se abstengan de cualquier viaje que no sea realmente necesario, cualquier celebración que no sea realmente necesaria", continuó la canciller, "por favor, quédense en casa, donde sea que estén, siempre que sea posible".
Merkel calificó la actual fase de la pandemia de "muy grave" y destacó que "la cantidad de nuevas infecciones aumenta a pasos agigantados todos los días". Además, señaló que los próximos meses serán delicados. "El verano relativamente relajado terminó. Ahora nos enfrentamos a meses difíciles. Se decidirá en los próximos días y semanas cómo será el invierno, cómo será nuestra navidad. Todos decidimos eso a través de nuestras acciones", sentenció.
