Estados Unidos anunció este miércoles un bloqueo total de los dos principales bancos rusos y sanciones contra Katerina Tikhonova y Maria Vorontsova, las dos hijas del presidente de Rusia, Vladimir Putin, así como a la esposa e hija del ministro ruso de Exteriores, Serguei Lavrov, tras la masacre perpetrada en la ciudad ucraniana de Bucha. Ambas están ahora sujetas a una congelación de activos en Estados Unidos y aisladas del sistema financiero estadounidense.
Un alto funcionario del Gobierno de Joe Biden explicó en una llamada con periodistas el "bloqueo total" a Sberbank y Alfa Bank, las mayores instituciones financieras del país, que no podrán hacer transacciones con Estados Unidos en ninguna divisa. E informó que todas las nuevas inversiones estadounidenses en Rusia quedan prohibidas.
Mientras tanto, el Reino Unido impuso hoy otra ronda de sanciones contra Rusia. "Nuestra última ola de medidas supone el fin de las importaciones británicas de energía rusa, y más sanciones a empresarios, para diezmar la máquina de guerra de Putin", subrayó un comunicado del Foreign Office y de su titular Liz Truss.
Los países de la Unión Europea también discuten hoy los detalles de un nuevo paquete de sanciones contra Moscú, el quinto desde el inicio de la invasión sobre Ucrania, que afectaría por primera vez al sector energético con la prohibición de las importaciones de carbón ruso. La reunión, sin embargo, probablemente continuará mañana jueves.
